A Bronx Tale

Posted : 16 years, 8 months ago on 14 August 2007 11:33 (A review of A Bronx Tale)

Pretty decent mafia movie. Takes place during the 50's or 60's. De Niro plays the dad of a kid who starts getting involved with the local mafia.
Kind of reminds me of the episodes of The Sopranos where they show Tony's dad and junior when they were younger.

Ever After

Posted : 16 years, 8 months ago on 14 August 2007 10:59 (A review of Ever After: A Cinderella Story)

One of my favorite movies. A re-telling of Cinderella that makes the story more believable. I loved Drew Barrymore as Danielle (aka Cinderella) and Anjelica Huston was perfect for the role of the evil step-mother. Scenery and costumes were also beautiful.

Fergie - Black eyed peas = blah

Posted : 16 years, 9 months ago on 30 July 2007 04:53 (A review of The Dutchess)

This is one singer who should never have gotten her own solo album. I liked her with the black eyed peas, but alone; I despise her.

Wuthering Heights review

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 28 May 2007 03:51 (A review of Wuthering Heights)

An ok adaptation of one of my favorite books, Wuthering Heights. I really enjoyed watching Juliette Binoche in the duals roles of Cathy/Catherine. Never been a fan of Ralph Fiennes and this movie didn't change that. When I read the book, I actually felt sorry for Heathcliff and understood why he did the things he did later on. Fiennes's portrayal of Heathcliff just made me want him to go away.
The movie is dark, which is how it should be with this story. Nice cinematography.

My wife's in a come, can I knock you up?

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 26 May 2007 06:25 (A review of Firelight)

It's the 1800's.Charles wants a kid. His wife is in a coma. He pays sophie marceau to let him knock her up and then takes the baby. She comes back to find the baby, and I'm sure you can guess what happens from there.
My biggest problem with the movie is this: It's the 1800's. This man's wife is in a COMA for 10 YEARS. She's just lying in bed 24/7. She has NO tubes hooked up to her. How the heck is she alive?????

Beautiful film

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 26 May 2007 06:17 (A review of Artemisia)

Visually, this movie is outstanding. Artemisia gives you a look in to life as a 17th century artist; particularly as a young female artist.
Of course, the young pretty artist falls in love (or in lust) with her much older male teacher and they get in trouble.
Although the dialogue is french, you really don't need to have the subtitles on during this movie if you don't speak the language....especially since a good part of it deals with people being naked and Artemisia's reactions to that.

Disney's Remember the Titans

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 26 May 2007 04:24 (A review of Remember the Titans)

A feel good movie about a black and a white football team coming together in a time of extreme racial tension.
Coming from Disney, of course it's a little cheesy but a decent film and Denzel does a good job as usual.
Being based on a true story does make it a little more interesting than some of the other sports movies out there.

bah

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 25 May 2007 04:03 (A review of Two Brothers)

I had high hopes for this movie. I guess I was thinking that it would be a newer version of Born Free or something. I was wrong. Very wrong.
I was horrified by the actions of the humans in the movie and can't believe that it was advertised as a children's movie.
Definitely not Born Free and definitely never in my DVD collection.

Who do I root for?

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 21 May 2007 05:15 (A review of The Heart of Me)

This is one of those movies where every character is just messed up in some way or another that makes you not really sympathize with any of them. On the other hand, the story is captivating and the acting superb.
I have yet to find a Helena Bonham Carter movie that I haven't enjoyed.

It's a great movie to watch with a nice bottle of red wine on a cold saturday night.

Nerds - the next generation

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 16 May 2007 03:46 (A review of Revenge of the Nerds III: The Next Generation)

Another nerd movie. They should have never made more than one of these. Nerds in paradise was stretching it.
This time we have two new nerds who are just Lewis and Gilbert all over again who once again have to battle with the Alpha Betas to prove that nerds deserve equal rights.
Nice cameos by the original Nerds. I think that might have been the highlight of the film.
